Colorado Rummage Sale Marks 25 Years Helping Neighbors

For a quarter century, volunteers in Summit County, Colorado have been proving that one person's forgotten garage items can become another's treasure.

Summit 50 Plus will host its 25th annual rummage sale August 6-9 at the community center in Frisco. The simple mission hasn't changed since day one: take useful items collecting dust in closets and garages and put them into the hands of neighbors who need them.

The sale kicks off with a "first pick" event on August 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. The main shopping days run August 7-8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with prices already deeply discounted.

Sunday's "bag sale" offers the biggest bargains of all. Shoppers bring their own bags and fill them with steeply discounted items, making everything even more affordable for families on tight budgets.

A silent auction running Thursday through Saturday will feature standout donations. Accepted items include gently used clothing, small furniture, working appliances, computer systems, children's toys, housewares, linens, sports equipment, and antiques.

The Ripple Effect

This annual gathering does double duty for the community. While shoppers score deals on quality secondhand goods, the sale serves as Summit 50 Plus' largest fundraising event of the year.

The money raised keeps year-round programs running for seniors across Summit County. What starts as a garage cleanout ripples outward, touching lives through both immediate bargains and ongoing community support.

Volunteers will accept donations at the Summit County Community and Senior Center from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on August 4, and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on August 5. The organization relies entirely on volunteers to sort, price, and sell thousands of donated items over the four-day event.
