Colorado School Wins Back-to-Back Baseball Championships

A Colorado high school baseball team just proved that building a winning culture pays off in the biggest moments.

Forge Christian captured its second straight Class 2A state championship Saturday at Pueblo's Hobbs Field, defeating Monte Vista 12-5. The top-seeded Fury finished their season with an outstanding 27-2 record.

"Winning state is not easy to do," said coach Jim Polson, who won his first championship just last year after 25 years of coaching. "The quality of kids that we have and the culture that we have, we never give in."

That never-quit attitude showed up when Monte Vista jumped ahead 2-0 in the first inning. Instead of panicking, Forge Christian responded with explosive offense, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first and adding five more in the second inning to take command.

Senior catcher Sam Buerck described the team's approach perfectly. "We just had selfless hitting," he said. "We strive for quality at-bats and whether that's a hard-hit ball right to somebody or you get hit by a pitch to get on base, it's about doing whatever you can to get the next guy up to do some damage."

The selfless mentality created magic on the field. Eight different players recorded hits, with four players collecting two hits each. Freshman Jake Stocker delivered a clutch three-run double and later pitched 4.1 scoreless innings in relief.

Monte Vista made things interesting with a three-run homer in the third inning, but the Fury's early offensive surge proved too much to overcome. The Pirates finished with an impressive 26-2 record, with both losses coming against Forge Christian.

The Ripple Effect

This championship represents more than wins and losses. With only three seniors on the roster, Forge Christian has built something sustainable. Their emphasis on team-first baseball and quality at-bats over individual glory creates a foundation that younger players can build on for years to come.

The school has now won five baseball state championships across different classifications since 2007. Meanwhile, Denver Christian and Forge Christian have combined to win the last four Class 2A titles, establishing a culture of excellence in their community that inspires younger athletes.

This team showed that success comes from doing the little things right, supporting your teammates, and staying calm when challenges arise.
