Connecticut Theater Fundraiser Raises $1,650 for Women

When actor Joyce Schroeder approached Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury with an idea to help, she didn't just write a check. She organized a sold-out theatrical performance that brought a community together and raised $1,650 for women in need.

The Vagina Monologues, Eve Ensler's groundbreaking play, took the stage at Vicinanza Studios & Gallery in Southbury on April 26. Every seat was filled with audience members who came for quality entertainment and stayed to support a meaningful cause.

Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury provides critical resources for women facing difficult situations. The organization's Southbury store manager, Susan McNeil, didn't expect a community member to step forward with such a creative fundraising idea.

"It was overwhelming that Joyce Schroeder, someone from the community, came to us with an offer to raise funds," McNeil said. She described the afternoon as filled with warmth, where strangers gathered not just to watch theater but to make a difference together.
