Credit Union Awards $25K in Scholarships to 10 Students

Ten students across Northern California will each receive $2,500 scholarships this spring, thanks to a credit union that believes every educational path deserves support.

SAFE Credit Union announced its 2026 scholarship program, awarding $25,000 total to graduating high school seniors and community college students across 13 counties. The deadline to apply is April 30.

What makes this program stand out is its inclusive approach to education. Students heading to universities, community colleges, or trade schools all qualify equally.

"SAFE recognizes that pursuing one's dreams often presents a unique journey for everyone," said Community Impact Manager Lauren LeBov. "We provide opportunities for varying educational pursuits, whether that means attending school at a community college or a university or learning a specialized skill from a trade school."

The scholarships are open to students in Alameda, Amador, Butte, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Solano, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba counties. Applicants or their parents must be SAFE Credit Union members.

Awards consider merit, financial need, and GPA, along with personal statements and recommendation letters. Students also submit introductory videos and proof of acceptance to their chosen school.

The Ripple Effect

Since launching nearly 25 years ago, SAFE Credit Union's scholarship program has awarded more than $225,000 to students pursuing diverse educational goals. That's dozens of young people who received financial support to chase their dreams, whether becoming electricians, nurses, engineers, or teachers.

The credit union extends its community commitment beyond scholarships. It supports local nonprofits through grants, sponsors community events, organizes volunteer efforts, and offers free financial education programs for everyone from school children to retirees.

This investment in education creates lasting change. When students receive support to pursue their goals, they return that investment to their communities as skilled workers, entrepreneurs, and leaders.
