Cubs Win 5th Straight on Wild Walk-Off at Wrigley Field

Pete Crow-Armstrong didn't stop running after crossing home plate on Sunday. The Cubs center fielder hopped onto the brick wall at Wrigley Field and celebrated face-to-face with fans, capping a thrilling 10-inning, 2-1 victory over the Mets.

"He's a madman," Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner said with a laugh. Hoerner had just hit the sacrifice fly that brought Crow-Armstrong home with the winning run, sealing Chicago's fifth straight win and completing a three-game sweep.

The victory felt especially sweet because it didn't come easy. Chicago's bats struggled most of the afternoon, going just 1-for-19 with runners on base through the first nine innings.

But the Cubs' pitching staff kept them in the game. Javier Assad delivered 5 2/3 solid innings after being called up from the minors, while a parade of relievers held strong despite recent injury troubles plaguing the team.

The ninth inning brought the drama Wrigley fans hoped for. Ian Happ singled to lead off against the Mets closer, setting the stage for veteran Michael Conforto, who spent seven years with New York before joining the Cubs.

In the 10th inning, everything aligned perfectly. Crow-Armstrong started at second base as the automatic runner, and Hoerner, known for his elite contact skills, came to the plate with a chance to be the hero.
