Dangote Foundation Feeds 53 Nigerian Communities Amid Crisis

Families in 53 Nigerian communities received unexpected help this month as rising food costs threatened their dinner tables.

The Aliko Dangote Foundation distributed thousands of 10-kilogram rice bags to vulnerable households in communities surrounding Dangote Cement plants in Ibese and Itori, Ogun state. The annual National Food Intervention Programme targets low-income families, elderly residents, and other struggling groups hit hardest by inflation.

"We recognize the current economic realities facing many Nigerian households," said Zouera Youssoufou, the foundation's CEO. The intervention provides immediate relief while reinforcing the organization's commitment to community wellbeing beyond business operations.

Local coordinators worked with community representatives to ensure the rice reached intended families through transparent distribution points. Recipients included households from 17 communities in Ibese and 36 others in Itori and Ijebu-Igbo.

The Aboro of Ibeseland, Oba Rotimi Oluseyi Mulero, thanked the foundation for what he called "operation feed the families." He praised Dangote Group as a responsible corporate citizen demonstrating genuine concern during economic challenges.

At Itori, the Olu of Itori, Oba Abdulfatai Akorede Akamo, expressed gratitude for support arriving at a critical moment. "Many households are under pressure, and this intervention will bring relief and hope to families," he said.

The Ripple Effect

This food distribution represents just one strand in the Dangote Foundation's broader safety net across Nigeria. Host communities near the group's cement operations have historically received support ranging from infrastructure and healthcare to education and economic empowerment programs.

The intervention complements government efforts to cushion citizens from economic headwinds while strengthening community resilience. As one of Africa's largest private philanthropic organizations, the foundation continues bridging gaps in social welfare delivery during uncertain times.
