Daughter Saves London Shoe Shop With One Viral TikTok Post

When Rachid Lazraq sent a confused text to his family about "young French girls" shopping at his vintage shoe store, his daughter knew something big was happening.

For over 30 years, Lazraq had run Rich Collection Italia in Shoreditch, East London. But online shopping and an aging customer base had pushed the shop to the brink of closure.

Then his 25-year-old daughter Zineb, a London journalist, discovered that a French influencer had posted about the shop as a "hidden gem." The video showcased Y2K kitten heels that Zineb didn't even know her dad sold.

Inspired, she decided to try the same approach. On July 7, she posted about a pair of Y2K sandals in her first TikTok video.

The response was instant. The video earned 300,000 views overnight.

Within days, young shoppers formed two-hour lines outside the tiny shop. The store now limits how many customers can enter at once because the space is so small.

"My dad has been running this shop since before I was born, so we were all sad to see it suffering," Zineb said. "He usually had older, regular clients, but they'd been petering out over the years."

The most emotional moment came when Rachid ripped down his "Closing Sale" sign while customers applauded around him. A business on life support transformed into a destination for a whole new generation.

"Now he has a whole new set of clientele, with streams of young people coming to the shop every day," Zineb said. By highlighting vintage styles that appeal to younger shoppers, she bridged the gap between her father's decades of expertise and modern tastes.

Rachid, nearing retirement age, wants to "go out with a bang" before moving back to his hometown. The shop at 7 Hackney Road is now considering launching online sales to serve its expanded customer base.
