DC Armenian Youth Center Raises Funds with Casino Night

The Armenian Youth Center of Greater Washington, DC took a gamble on a brand new fundraiser, and the community showed up in force.

Organizers weren't sure what to expect when they announced their first Casino Royale charity night at the Lorton Art House in Virginia. Would families embrace a casino concept? The answer came loud and clear when supporters filled the room for an evening of blackjack, roulette, poker, and fellowship.

President Chris Hekimian and a dedicated volunteer host committee created an event that went far beyond typical fundraisers. Children stood alongside parents at gaming tables, learning the rules and cheering each hand. What could have been a formal adults-only affair transformed into something the Armenian community does naturally: bringing generations together.

The evening featured seven different game tables, from three-card poker to Texas Hold 'Em, along with raffles, an auction, and plenty of food. But the real win was watching families connect while supporting a shared vision.

That vision centers on building a physical youth center where young people can gather, celebrate Armenian heritage, play sports, and strengthen friendships. The new facility will also support local educational programs, cultural activities, and community initiatives throughout the region.

During the event, organizers made a special presentation to Hamasdegh Armenian Sunday School, recognizing its role in educating and connecting Armenian youth. The moment highlighted how the funds raised would create ripples through multiple organizations serving young people.

The Ripple Effect

Casino Royale joins the Armenian Youth Center's annual autumn golf outing as a second major fundraising event each year. Creating a spring tradition gives the community more opportunities to gather and invest in the next generation.

The success required extraordinary volunteer effort from the host committee, including Manoug Habibian, Rafi Festekjian, John Altounian, and others who dedicated countless hours. Manoug and Taline Habibian of UE Events brought creative vision that transformed a first-time concept into a memorable evening.

Local businesses stepped up too. Wheels On Site, Imperial Auto Body, Delta Star Inc., and Levant Charcoal provided sponsorship support, while community members donated raffle prizes and auction items.

The turnout included longtime supporters, Armenian families, and friends from outside the community, all united by a commitment to helping young people thrive. Their enthusiasm proved that when you create space for connection and purpose, people will show up.

For a first-time event, Casino Royale hit the jackpot in what matters most: bringing people together and moving closer to a dream that will serve generations to come.
