Dick Vitale has fought cancer four times already, and the beloved ESPN broadcaster isn't about to let a fifth diagnosis slow him down.

The 86-year-old college basketball icon announced Monday that melanoma has been found in his lung and liver cavity. But true to form, Vitale delivered the news with the same fighting spirit that's defined his 46-year broadcasting career.

"I've beaten melanoma. I've beaten lymphoma. I've beaten vocal cord cancer. I've beaten lymph node cancer," Vitale said. "I'm four for four and I'm fully confident I'm going to make it five for five."

Over the past few years, Vitale has battled multiple cancer types, most recently undergoing surgery in summer 2024 after a biopsy showed cancer in a lymph node in his neck. He took nearly two years away from the microphone to focus on his health.

In February of last year, Vitale returned to broadcasting after announcing he was cancer free. He just finished calling his 46th season of college basketball for ESPN, bringing his trademark enthusiasm to over 1,000 games since joining the network in 1979.
