$20M Gift to Cape Cod Healthcare Marks Historic Milestone

Cynthia and John Fish have given Cape Cod Healthcare a $20 million boost, the biggest charitable gift the health system has ever received.

The historic donation, announced this week, will fund new elder care programs, improve patient experiences, and expand healthcare access across Cape Cod. In recognition, the Cape Cod Hospital campus will be renamed in the couple's honor.

The timing couldn't be better. Barnstable County has one of the oldest populations in the United States, and Cape Cod Healthcare serves both year-round residents and millions of tourists who visit the region each year.

"Cape Cod Healthcare has been there for our family during some of life's most important moments," said Cynthia Fish. The couple's personal connection to the hospital made their decision especially meaningful.

John Fish, chairman and CEO of Suffolk construction company, echoed that sentiment. "This incredible healthcare institution has also touched our own family in meaningful ways, which makes this gift especially personal for both Cyndy and me," he said.

Cape Cod Healthcare President Michael Lauf called the pledge transformative. The investment will help the system meet growing demands while keeping high-quality care close to home for communities that need it most.

Cape Cod Healthcare operates two hospitals, a trauma center, home health services, urgent care centers, and skilled nursing facilities with more than 5,000 employees serving the region. The Fish family's gift ensures these services can expand and improve for generations to come.

The Fishes have a long track record of giving back. John Fish has led major healthcare and education organizations, including serving as chair of Brigham and Women's Hospital. Cynthia Fish has dedicated decades to nonprofit work, supporting education, environmental causes, Alzheimer's research, and healthcare advancement.
