$25K Match Doubles Everett Hunger Relief Donations
A $25,000 matching gift from the EverTrust Foundation means every dollar donated to Everett's March Against Hunger campaign in March counts twice. With the match, Volunteers of America Western Washington is just $30,000 away from its $60,000 goal to support families facing food insecurity.
Every dollar donated to fight hunger in Everett this month instantly becomes two dollars, thanks to a foundation stepping up when families need it most.
The EverTrust Foundation pledged to match donations up to $25,000 for Volunteers of America Western Washington's March Against Hunger campaign. The organization aims to raise $60,000 by the end of March to benefit the Everett Community Food Bank, which supplies food banks throughout Snohomish County.
"This matching gift comes at such a critical time," said Jessica Moore, Vice President of Development. "For anyone who has been thinking about giving, this is the moment."
The campaign started in 1999 when Snohomish County Treasurer's Office employee Valerie Davis-Butler launched a friendly competition between county departments. Today, it's grown into the largest annual fundraiser for Volunteers of America Western Washington's hunger prevention programs.

John Glennon, Executive Director of hunger prevention, sees the need firsthand. "More families who have never had to ask for help before are now walking through our doors," he said.
The Ripple Effect
When one community member donates $100 during the match period, it becomes $200 worth of groceries for families struggling to put food on the table. That's double the impact on neighbors who might be facing food insecurity for the first time.
County employees are also competing to raise $65,000 in their own friendly challenge, which would bring the combined total to $125,000. The campaign proves that when communities work together, they can turn tight budgets into abundant support.
The third annual March Against Hunger 5K and community food drive will cap off the fundraising push on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Boxcar Park in Everett. Runners and walkers can register ahead of time, and anyone can bring non-perishable food items to the event.
For those who can't attend the race, online donations at give.voaww.org/give/719082 still qualify for the matching gift through the end of March, making this the perfect week to give.
