Dubai's Clean Energy Jumps 52% as Renewables Boom

Dubai just proved that cities can grow fast while going green. The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority reported a stunning 52% increase in clean power generation for 2025, while delivering record profits and serving nearly 60,000 new customers.

DEWA generated over 10 terawatt hours of clean electricity last year, now accounting for 16% of the city's total power output. That's enough clean energy to power millions of homes without burning fossil fuels.

The numbers tell a story of smart growth. Revenue climbed to $8.9 billion, while profit jumped nearly 26% to $2.5 billion. But the real win isn't just financial.

Dubai added 56,897 new customer accounts in 2025, bringing the total to over 1.3 million. Every single one of those homes and businesses now benefits from an increasingly clean power grid.

The utility invested $3.2 billion during the year, pouring resources into renewable energy plants, modern desalination facilities, and upgraded transmission networks. Clean energy capacity now stands at 3,860 megawatts and growing.

Dubai's renewable energy expansion creates positive waves far beyond its borders. As one of the Middle East's most influential cities demonstrates that clean energy works at scale, other regional powers are taking notice.

The utility's ambitious 2030 plan targets 8.3 gigawatts of renewable capacity, representing 36% of total power generation. That shift will prevent millions of tons of carbon emissions while proving that desert cities can become solar powerhouses.

Water management is getting cleaner too. DEWA plans to produce 308 million gallons of desalinated water daily using reverse osmosis powered entirely by renewable energy. Traditional desalination is energy intensive, so switching to clean power multiplies the environmental benefits.

The fourth quarter results showed the momentum continuing. Clean power output surged 38% compared to the same period in 2024, suggesting the growth isn't slowing down.
