Duke's Ashlon Jackson Hits First Game-Winner at the Buzzer

Ashlon Jackson's first ever game-winning basket came on college basketball's biggest stage, and it couldn't have been more perfect.

The Duke guard hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Blue Devils to an 87-85 victory over LSU in the Sweet 16 of the women's NCAA Tournament on Friday night in Sacramento. Her shot from the wing rolled around the rim before dropping through, sparking a wild celebration.

"I feel like I'm on cloud nine right now," Jackson said after the game. "The way it went in, I felt like I was in a dream and it was playing back over and over again before the ball went in."

The dramatic finish capped an incredible comeback story for Duke. After losing to LSU earlier this season and stumbling to a 3-6 start, the Blue Devils have now won 24 of their last 26 games to claim both the ACC regular season and tournament titles.

LSU had rallied from 11 points down to take an 85-84 lead with just 9.2 seconds left on two free throws by Mikaylah Williams. A missed Duke 3-pointer seemed to seal the Tigers' victory, but the ball bounced out of bounds off LSU with 2.6 seconds remaining.

Jackson caught the inbound pass on the wing, faked out LSU defender Flau'jae Johnson, and launched the shot that will define her career. It was especially sweet redemption after she had missed two free throws just seconds earlier that could have iced the game.

"It's basketball. I would have loved to made those free throws," Jackson said. "Focus on the next play."
