Dutch Startup's Electric Dirt Bike Swaps Batteries in 30 Seconds

Imagine riding your dirt bike through rugged trails and swapping out a dead battery faster than changing a tire.

Dutch company Radian just launched the EXR, an electric enduro motorcycle that makes battery swaps effortless. The bike's InfiniPack dual battery system lets riders pop in fresh batteries in less than 30 seconds without grabbing a single tool.

Radian isn't new to electric motorcycles. The company started as Electric Superbike Twente in 2017 and won the 2018 MotoE championship in its first racing season. That racing experience shows in the EXR, their first consumer bike.

The EXR packs 70 horsepower and handles like a dream, but the real innovation is solving range anxiety. Its 8.6 kWh battery delivers 37 to 70 miles of off-road riding depending on terrain and speed. Riders can keep going by simply swapping in fresh batteries while the depleted ones charge on Radian's included InfiniDock charging station.

The bike weighs just 275 pounds thanks to its aluminum frame and swingarm. Radian designed the frame to work double duty as a heatsink, keeping the motor cool during intense rides. The motor mounts inside the battery pack's arch, keeping weight centered for better handling.

Practical touches show Radian listened to actual riders. The bike includes built-in storage for tools and supplies, a skid plate, grab handles, and a glove-friendly display. The LED headlight even doubles as a charging indicator, so you always know your battery status at a glance.

Premium suspension from KYB and brakes from Brembo prove this isn't a compromised electric alternative. It's a serious off-road machine that happens to run on batteries.

The Bright Side

Electric dirt bikes once meant choosing between performance and practicality. The EXR shows that trade-off is disappearing. Quick battery swaps mean riders can explore remote trails without worrying about running out of juice miles from home.

The bike also makes electric motorcycles more accessible. Starting at €14,450 (about $16,788), it costs less than many gas-powered enduros when you factor in fuel and maintenance savings. Plus, the quiet motor opens up riding areas where noise restrictions previously banned dirt bikes.

Radian plans to start deliveries in late 2027, beginning in Europe with other markets likely to follow. For riders ready to go electric without giving up adventure, the wait just got more exciting.
