East Sussex Circus School Graduates Young Performers

Young circus artists took center stage at East Sussex School of Circus Arts' graduation ceremony on July 14, proving that creativity and resilience can soar to new heights.

The celebration at Knockhatch Adventure Park featured breathtaking performances from first and second-year students. Aerial acts included trapeze, aerial hoop, and hammock performances, while floor artists showcased skills with Chinese chairs, hand canes, and rolla bolla.

Four students received special recognition for their outstanding achievements. Cazimi Miller won Best Creativity Performance for her aerial pole act. Imogen Morris-Hilton earned the Resilience Award for her determination and spirit. Courtney Roberts took home Best Aerial Act for her aerial hoop performance. Lilimae Norris was named Student of the Year after wowing audiences with her trapeze skills.

Industry heavyweights attended to support the next generation of performers. Lydia Harper, an Artistic Director at Cirque du Soleil currently working on the spectacular OVO show, served as a guest judge. Daniel Fathers, known for his roles in The Ark and House of the Dragon, joined the panel alongside circus professionals with decades of experience.

The judges brought real-world expertise to the event. Kenny Darnell Jr., a 7th generation circus performer and manager at Paulos Circus, knows firsthand what it takes to succeed in the industry. Attila Endresz, also a 7th generation circus artist, has spent over 20 years as a ringmaster with major UK circuses.

The Ripple Effect

The school is opening doors for young people who might not otherwise have access to professional circus training in Southeast England. Founder Renato Pires built ESSCA to provide inclusive, high-quality training that welcomes neurodiverse students and performers of all abilities. The school's partnerships with industry leaders help graduates transition into real careers across circus, theatre, screen, and live events.

The graduation marks another step forward in keeping traditional circus arts alive while adapting them for modern entertainment. These young performers are carrying forward a centuries-old art form with fresh creativity and dedication.

Their success shows that with the right training and support, passion can transform into profession.
