Egypt Launches Cybersecurity Lab to Train Digital Defenders

Egypt is creating its next generation of cybersecurity defenders with a brand new innovation lab designed to turn ideas into market-ready technology.

Telecom Egypt, the National Telecom Regulatory Authority, and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport just opened the Cybersecurity Innovation Lab at the academy's Smart Village campus. The facility gives students, researchers, and entrepreneurs advanced tools to develop and test solutions in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.

The lab is part of Telecom Egypt's WE Innovate Star program, which supports the complete journey from research to commercialization. Students can now transform classroom concepts into working prototypes, test them in real operating environments, and prepare startups for market launch.

During the inauguration, Telecom Egypt CEO Tamer El-Mahdy and Academy President Ismail Abdel Ghaffar signed an agreement establishing training programs, technical mentoring, and workshops. The partnership creates a direct pipeline between what students learn and what industries actually need.

Professor Abdel Ghaffar emphasized that access to advanced technologies and hands-on learning opportunities will prepare future leaders to drive Egypt's digital transformation. Students won't just read about cybersecurity—they'll build actual solutions to real problems.

This initiative arrives at a crucial moment for Egypt's digital economy. The lab directly supports Egypt's National Cybersecurity Strategy 2023-2027, which aims to protect the country's growing digital infrastructure while creating competitive products and services.

Walid Zakaria from NTRA highlighted that the facility will help develop cybersecurity professionals capable of defending critical systems while fostering innovation. As Egypt positions itself as a regional technology hub, homegrown talent and locally developed solutions become increasingly vital.
