Egypt Ships 208K Tons of Food to 182 Countries in One Week

Egypt just shipped enough food in one week to fill more than 10,000 shipping containers, delivering fresh fruits and vegetables to dinner tables across six continents.

Between August 15 and 21, Egyptian farmers and food companies exported 208,000 tons of food products to 182 countries, according to the National Food Safety Authority. The shipments included everything from sweet potatoes to strawberries, representing 758 different food products from 1,410 Egyptian businesses.

Sweet potatoes led the vegetable exports at 20,000 tons, followed by 10,000 tons of onions and 5,000 tons of potatoes. On the fruit side, Egyptian strawberries dominated with 13,000 tons shipped, along with 7,000 tons of citrus fruits and 6,000 tons of mangoes.

Tunisia imported the most Egyptian food products during the week, with Italy, Syria, Saudi Arabia, and the Netherlands rounding out the top five destinations. Alexandria Port handled the most shipments, processing 740 export consignments in just seven days.

The numbers tell a story of agricultural success in a region often associated with food scarcity challenges. Egypt's farmers are not just feeding their own population of over 100 million people but are also becoming crucial suppliers to markets from North Africa to Europe to the Middle East.

This export boom creates jobs across Egypt's agricultural sector, from farmers in the Nile Delta to packaging workers at busy ports. When 1,410 companies can successfully export to 182 countries in a single week, it demonstrates the strength of Egypt's agricultural infrastructure and quality standards.

The diversity matters too. By exporting 758 different food products across 45 vegetable varieties and 34 fruit types, Egyptian producers are building resilient trade relationships that don't depend on a single crop or market.
