Modern industrial green hydrogen production facility with renewable energy infrastructure in Egypt's industrial zone

Egypt's 100 MW Green Hydrogen Plant Now Running

🀯 Mind Blown

A massive green hydrogen facility just started production in Egypt, marking a major step toward clean energy that can power Europe. Meanwhile, hydrogen fueling stations are spreading across the continent to support zero-emission vehicles.

Egypt just flipped the switch on a game-changing clean energy project that could help power a greener future for an entire continent.

The country's 100-megawatt Green Hydrogen Production Project began partial operations this month in the Ain Sokhna Industrial Zone. Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli announced the milestone, noting that production activities will ramp up in the coming months.

Norway's Scatec led the project in partnership with Egypt's Sovereign Fund, Orascom Construction, and Fertiglobe. The facility will primarily supply European markets, and the European Union has already expressed strong support for the initiative.

Green hydrogen is produced using renewable energy to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, creating a clean fuel that emits only water vapor when used. It's a promising alternative to fossil fuels for industries and transportation that are difficult to electrify.

The timing couldn't be better. Europe is actively seeking clean energy solutions, and European financial institutions are backing renewable projects across Egypt.

Across the continent, the infrastructure to support hydrogen-powered vehicles is growing fast. TEAL Mobility just opened seven new hydrogen stations in 2025, becoming Europe's first network with 15 stations spanning five countries: France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany.

The new stations in Marseille-Fos and Reims each offer one ton of hydrogen per day and operate around the clock. They can fuel everything from passenger vehicles to heavy trucks at both 350 and 700 bar pressure.

Germany is also expanding its hydrogen capabilities with a new fueling station designed specifically for public transit. Cavendish Hydrogen won a contract worth up to $5.82 million to build a station that will fuel 25 buses daily, supporting the country's shift to zero-emission public transportation.

The Ripple Effect

This wave of hydrogen infrastructure isn't just about individual projects. Each new facility makes it easier for companies to invest in hydrogen vehicles, knowing they'll have places to refuel. Each bus that switches to hydrogen means cleaner air in cities where people live and breathe.

The Egyptian plant alone represents a vote of confidence in clean energy from both the public and private sectors. When governments and corporations work together on this scale, it shows that green technology isn't just possible but practical and profitable.

Europe's support for Egypt's hydrogen ambitions also demonstrates how countries can collaborate on climate solutions. Clean energy doesn't have borders, and neither do its benefits.

As more stations open and more facilities come online, hydrogen is moving from experimental technology to everyday reality, one refueling stop at a time.
