Engineering Grad Finds Dream Career With Knicks' Title Run

When Olivia White graduated from University of Central Florida with an aerospace engineering degree in 2016, she thought her path was set. But her heart kept pulling her back to the dance floor and the roar of arena crowds.

White spent her days working in defense and tech while dancing nights and weekends with the Orlando Magic dance team. The contrast became impossible to ignore: her "side gig" brought more joy than her full-time career.

So she made a bold move. White enrolled at New York University for a master's in global sport business while still working full-time in Orlando, flying to New York City and Tokyo for educational residencies.

In 2020, she landed a remote internship with Madison Square Garden. Five months after it ended, she applied for her dream role with the Knicks event presentation team and got it.

Fast forward to September 2025. White was promoted to manager of event presentation at Madison Square Garden, overseeing everything that happens on the court during games except the actual basketball: halftime shows, fan contests, T-shirt tosses, and managing all 40 members of the Knicks' hype squad.

One month later, the season began. What followed was the ride of a lifetime.

The Knicks made the NBA Finals for the first time in 26 years. White had a front-row seat to the team's stunning 29-point comeback in Game 4 and their first championship victory in 53 years.

Then came the ticker-tape parade down Manhattan streets. An estimated 2 million fans showed up to celebrate, and White marched right through the heart of it all.

Why This Inspires

White's story shows that the "practical" path isn't always the right one. She had the courage to pursue a second degree in her late twenties and start over in a completely different field.

Her aerospace engineering background taught her problem-solving and time management. Her dance team experience at UCF showed her the magic of bringing people together through sports entertainment.

"Madison Square Garden and the Knicks organizations have brought so many people across the world together, and getting to be a part of that kind of impact will really change your perspective forever in the best way possible," White says.

The timing of her promotion, just one month before the most successful season in Knicks history, feels like validation that sometimes the riskiest moves lead to the biggest rewards.

White's journey reminds us that it's never too late to pivot toward what makes you come alive.
