Ethiopia and Algeria Partner on Tech Startups

The two countries' technology ministers met recently to outline plans for joint cooperation in research, development, and startup support. Dr. Belete Molla, Ethiopia's Minister of Innovation and Technology, emphasized his country's commitment to building a robust innovation ecosystem that drives economic growth and sustainable development.

Ethiopia has been making serious moves in the tech space. The country successfully rolled out its Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy and is now working toward an even more ambitious Digital Ethiopia 2030 plan aimed at boosting global competitiveness.

Dr. Belete shared that Ethiopia wants to become a technology model for the entire African continent. The nation is prioritizing partnerships with experienced countries like Algeria to speed up its technological advancement.

Algeria's Minister Noureddine Ouadah expressed strong interest in creating a formal framework with Ethiopia to advance their shared goals. He noted Ethiopia's impressive potential in the sector and recalled the country's active participation in a startup conference Algeria previously hosted.

Minister Ouadah pointed out that Ethiopia's experience organizing continental conferences makes it an ideal candidate to host future startup forums. The recognition highlights Ethiopia's growing reputation as a regional tech leader.
