Ethiopia Launches AI Hub to Train Next-Gen Innovators

Ethiopia is stepping boldly into the future with a new national platform designed to transform young people into artificial intelligence innovators.

The University Innovation Platform for Artificial Intelligence launched this week in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme. The initiative aims to position Ethiopia as a continental leader in AI-driven solutions.

The platform gives students hands-on training in artificial intelligence while helping them turn academic research into real-world startups. It combines advanced infrastructure, specialized workstations, industry-standard tools, and structured training programs to support the entire innovation journey from brainstorming to prototype to business launch.

Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh called the launch a turning point for the country's technological development. He emphasized that Ethiopia is transitioning from simply consuming technology to actively producing it and contributing to the global digital economy.

The platform directly supports Ethiopia's "Digital Ethiopia 2030" strategy and the country's broader economic reform program. Both initiatives aim to modernize the economy and create opportunities for young people in emerging technology sectors.

Tiruneh also highlighted a crucial shift happening worldwide. In the 21st century, national sovereignty increasingly includes control over data, algorithms, and computing power, not just physical borders.
