Ethiopia Plants 50 Billion Trees With Diplomat Support

Diplomats from around the world grabbed shovels and planted trees alongside Ethiopian officials at Entoto Park in Addis Ababa, marking a powerful moment of international unity in the fight against climate change.

The event celebrated Ethiopia's Green Legacy Initiative, launched in 2019 as one of the world's most ambitious environmental restoration programs. Since then, millions of Ethiopians have planted more than 50 billion tree seedlings across the country.

State Minister of Foreign Affairs Hadera Abera welcomed the diplomatic community's participation, calling environmental protection a collective responsibility. "The participation of the diplomatic community reflects the understanding that climate change is a global challenge that no country can address alone," he said.

Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority Director General Kumera Wakjira praised the diplomats for joining the nationwide campaign. He described their involvement as more than symbolic, calling it a shared commitment to protecting nature and building a climate-resilient future.

Entoto Park, where the tree planting took place, serves as an important watershed and green space for Ethiopia's capital. Every tree planted there contributes to cleaner air, carbon storage, soil conservation, and healthier wildlife habitats.
