Ethiopian Mom Welcomes Quintuplets After 12-Year Wait

After 12 years of hoping for just one child, Bedriya Adem received five blessings at once when she naturally conceived quintuplets, defying odds of one in 55 million.

The 35-year-old Ethiopian mother gave birth to four healthy boys and one girl at Hiwot Fana Specialised Hospital. Naif, Ammar, Munzir, Nazira, and Ansar each weighed between 1.3 and 1.4 kilograms and are thriving under medical care.

"I cannot express my happiness in words," Adem told the BBC. She had spent over a decade facing questions from her village about her inability to conceive, carrying pain she described as both psychological and emotional.

Her husband tried to comfort her, saying their one child from his previous marriage was enough. But Adem continued praying constantly, hiding her suffering while desperately hoping for a baby of her own.

During her pregnancy, doctors told her to expect quadruplets. The fifth baby came as a complete surprise during her C-section delivery.

"I prayed for just one child, and Allah gave me five," she said.

Hospital director Dr. Mohammed Nur Abdulahi credited regular prenatal care for the positive outcome. Adem received consistent medical attention throughout her pregnancy and had full support during delivery, giving the babies a high chance of survival.
