Modern wind turbines spinning against blue sky across European countryside landscape

Europe Adds 19 GW of Wind Power and Invests €45 Billion

🤯 Mind Blown

Europe installed enough wind energy in 2025 to power millions more homes, while investing €45 billion in future clean energy projects. Nine countries are now racing ahead with major wind expansions.

Europe just made a massive leap forward in clean energy, adding 19 gigawatts of new wind power capacity in 2025 while committing €45 billion to future projects that will keep the momentum building for years to come.

The continent now has 304 gigawatts of total wind energy capacity installed, according to WindEurope's latest report. That's enough clean power to replace countless coal plants and reduce carbon emissions across the region.

Germany led the charge with 5.7 gigawatts of new capacity, followed by Turkey with 2.1 gigawatts, Sweden with 1.8 gigawatts, and Spain with 1.6 gigawatts. The growth happened across the continent, with nine different countries adding more than 500 megawatts each.

Lithuania made particularly impressive strides, increasing its wind capacity by more than 40 percent with 759 megawatts of new installations. That kind of rapid expansion shows smaller countries can make big impacts on clean energy goals.

Onshore wind turbines drove most of the progress, accounting for 90 percent of new capacity at 17 gigawatts. These land-based turbines are proving faster and easier to install than their offshore counterparts right now.

The Ripple Effect

This wind energy boom means cleaner air for millions of Europeans and more energy independence for the continent. Every gigawatt installed reduces reliance on imported fossil fuels and creates local jobs in manufacturing, installation, and maintenance.

The €45 billion investment signals that Europe's energy companies see a profitable future in renewables. That money will fund 151 gigawatts of new wind projects between 2026 and 2030, with 112 gigawatts coming from EU countries alone.

Offshore wind lagged behind expectations in 2025, with only 2 gigawatts added across the UK, Germany, and France. However, WindEurope expects a catch-up effect this year as delayed projects come online.

The success story isn't without challenges ahead. Grid infrastructure needs to expand faster to handle all this new clean power, and some countries still face slow permitting processes that delay projects.

But the trajectory is clear: Europe is building a cleaner energy future one turbine at a time.
