Germany powered the surge, installing 3.4 gigawatts of new capacity. That's nearly 40% of all the wind power added across Europe. Spain and Poland also made significant contributions, with Poland tripling its installations compared to last year.
The numbers get even more exciting when you zoom out. WindEurope, the leading wind industry association, expects the continent to install 24.1 gigawatts total by year's end. That would shatter the previous record of 19.1 gigawatts set in 2025.
Offshore wind farms saw the most dramatic growth. Europe connected 2.3 gigawatts of offshore capacity in the first half of 2026, more than triple the amount installed during the same period in 2025. Nine new projects came online across Germany, the UK, Denmark, and France.
Five countries awarded support for an additional 17.2 gigawatts of future wind projects in the first six months alone. The UK and Germany led these commitments, accounting for more than 15 gigawatts of the total.
