EV Charging Network Ionna Grew 50% In Just Six Months

Getting stranded with a dead electric vehicle battery is about to become a lot less likely thanks to one company's lightning-fast expansion.

Ionna, an EV charging network backed by major automakers like BMW, Hyundai, and Mercedes-Benz, has exploded across America in 2025. The company now operates 1,488 charging ports at 174 stations nationwide, a 50% increase in plugs and 74% more locations than just six months ago.

The growth is even more impressive when you consider Ionna opened its very first charging station in December 2024. Within a year, they had 51 locations offering 478 ports. That made them the fastest-growing EV charging company ever.

Each Ionna station features powerful 400-kilowatt chargers that can quickly top up electric vehicles. The company uses dual-cable stalls, meaning two cars can charge from a single unit at maximum speed simultaneously.

But speed isn't Ionna's only claim to fame. JD Power recently ranked the company as offering the best charging experience in America, scoring 803 points in its first year. Drivers love that the chargers actually work, don't require downloading an app, and accept credit cards right at the station.

The Ripple Effect

This rapid expansion is solving one of electric vehicle ownership's biggest headaches: charging anxiety. When drivers know they can reliably find working chargers on road trips, they're more likely to consider buying an EV.

Major automaker backing makes the difference. General Motors, BMW, Hyundai, Genesis, and Mercedes-Benz owners even get 10% to 20% discounts when they use their manufacturer's app or Plug and Charge technology at Ionna stations.

The company isn't slowing down either. Their goal of 30,000 charging bays by 2030 would create a nationwide network of 15,000 individual stations, making electric vehicle travel as convenient as gas-powered cars.

Some expansion comes from upgrading existing locations too. Ionna recently bought out chargers at Circle K convenience stores and replaced them with newer, faster equipment.

America's electric vehicle future just got a whole lot brighter.
