Their guidance mirrors last year's advice and includes detailed scientific explanations.

The FDA has already approved updated flu and COVID-19 shots for this season. Pharmacies across the country have started receiving supplies, and many are already sending out appointment reminders.

State and local health officials are preparing for what they expect to be a normal rollout. "Vaccination remains one of the most effective tools we have to prevent severe illness, hospitalization, and death," said Manisha Juthani, president of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials.
