Faridabad Family Slashes Rs 60,000 Power Bill to Rs 12
An entrepreneur in Faridabad turned his massive summer electricity bills into nearly zero by installing rooftop solar panels. His family of 12 now pays just Rs 12 instead of Rs 60,000 during peak months.
Sandeep Mall opened his electricity bill last summer and smiled at a number he'd never seen before: Rs 12.69 for two full months. His family of 12 lives in a sprawling 10,000 square foot home in Faridabad, where cooling bills once hit Rs 60,000 every summer.
The entrepreneur decided to test solar power a few years ago by installing a modest 10 kilowatt rooftop system. He wanted to see if the technology could actually make a dent in his family's enormous energy consumption.
The system worked better than expected. During sunny daytime hours, when air conditioners and coolers drive electricity demand to its peak, Sandeep's solar panels generated the most power exactly when his home needed it most.
Haryana's net metering system made the difference. Any unused solar power his panels generated during the day flowed back into the electrical grid, and his utility bill reflected only the difference between what he consumed and what he contributed.

Encouraged by the results, Sandeep expanded his installation by another 15 kilowatts. Today, his 25 kilowatt rooftop solar system transforms his home into a small power plant that gives electricity back to the community.
The complete system cost between Rs 12 and 13 lakh. Sandeep estimates he saves roughly Rs 3 to 4 lakh every year on electricity bills.
According to his calculations, the investment will pay for itself in just two to three years. After that, every rupee saved goes straight back into his family's pocket.
The Ripple Effect
Every unit of solar electricity Sandeep's home uses or exports reduces demand for conventionally generated power during the hours when utilities struggle most. His rooftop doesn't just cut his own costs; it helps stabilize the grid when summer heat pushes electrical systems to their limits.
As Indian summers grow hotter and power demand climbs higher, families like Sandeep's are proving that individual action can deliver both personal savings and community benefit. One rooftop at a time, households are turning sunshine into solutions during the brightest, hottest hours when help is needed most.
