Farmington Students Win State Dance, Choir, and Band Honors

Students from Farmington, Missouri proved that excellence comes in many forms this school year, racking up state championships, academic records, and inspiring performances across every department.

The Knightline dance team made history at the state competition, claiming first place in division 4 mixed for the first time since 2019. The six-member squad also earned fifth place in lyrical and took home the Team Academic Award for having the highest team GPA in their division and second-highest in the entire state.

Musical achievements rang just as loud. Three band students made all-state band, while 16 earned gold at district Solo and Ensemble, qualifying them for state competition. The marching band placed third or higher at every preliminary competition they entered.

The choir program saw similar success, with three students making all-state choir. At the State Solo and Ensemble Festival, student vocalists brought home 10 silver ratings and four gold ratings across 21 different events.

Special Olympics athletes competed in bowling, basketball, and track and field, earning gold, silver, and bronze medals at an event hosted right at Farmington High School. Director of Special Services Gretchen Hill praised how the program builds physical fitness, courage, and lifelong friendships that extend far beyond athletic competition.

These achievements show what happens when schools invest equally in arts, athletics, academics, and inclusive programs. No single path defines success, and Farmington students proved that every talent deserves celebration.

The school board also recognized 12 retiring staff members who dedicated careers to building this culture of achievement. Dr. Ashley Krause summed up their impact perfectly: "An entire student community felt stronger because they were here."

Those decades of mentorship created the foundation for this year's record-breaking performances. When teachers invest in every student's potential, the whole community rises together.
