Father and Son Build Baker New Stand After Thieves Strike

Katrina Blancaflor spent years perfecting her sourdough recipes, dreaming of sharing them with her Rhode Island community through a small home bakery called K's Bakestand. Her husband Ian Swett spent months building a beautiful farm stand for their driveway, while their daughter Kalia excitedly planned to sell her toy collection alongside mom's fresh bread.

On July 4, 2026, just hours before a local road race would bring hundreds of potential customers past their home, the family woke to discover the stand had vanished. Security footage from neighbors showed an SUV loading it onto its roof at 2 a.m. and driving away.

Blancaflor shared the heartbreaking news on social media, hoping someone had taken it by mistake. Instead, she got something better: a message from John Adams, owner of Adams Construction, offering to build them an entirely new stand for free.

"I was in shock," Blancaflor said. "It was such a generous offer from someone we didn't even know."

John and his son Casey got copies of Swett's original blueprints and recreated the stand as closely as possible. "We thought, it's easier for us than for the husband to do it again," John explained. "He did a beautiful job and we did the best we could."

When the Adamses delivered the finished stand, Blancaflor couldn't hold back tears. "It looked just like our stand," she said. "It meant so much."
