Firefighter Descends 30 Feet to Rescue Dog Trapped 3 Days

When Blue disappeared from her St. Clair Township home on Thursday morning, her family had no idea she was trapped just beneath their feet in a hidden well.

For three days, the German Shepherd-Husky mix waited in darkness 30 feet underground. Her family searched frantically, posting missing dog flyers throughout the neighborhood on Maple Street.

Sunday morning brought the breakthrough. Blue's family discovered her trapped in the well and immediately called 911 around 9:30 a.m.

The St. Clair Township Life Squad arrived first but quickly realized this rescue needed specialized equipment and training. They called in the Butler County Technical Rescue Team for backup.

Liberty Township firefighter Cody Helmuth volunteered to make the dangerous descent. He strapped into a harness and was lowered down the narrow shaft while his team managed the ropes from above.

Video footage captured the tense moment when Helmuth emerged from the well with Blue secured behind him. As both cleared the opening, Blue stood on shaky legs, visibly scared and confused after her underground ordeal.
