Firefighter Saves Dog From Icy Colorado Pond

When a mid-sized dog broke through the ice on an East Harmony Road pond Monday, nearby children could only watch and call out to their struggling friend. Firefighters from Poudre Fire Authority's Engine 10 crew arrived at the scene near UCHealth Urgent Care in the 2300 block of East Harmony Road after multiple callers reported the emergency. The dog's head stayed above water, giving rescuers precious time to act.

One firefighter specially trained in ice rescue operations suited up in a protective dry suit and entered the frigid water. Within minutes, he reached the frightened animal, lifted it onto the ice, and guided it back to shore completely unharmed.
