Firefighters Rescue Trapped Resident from Blazing Home

Firefighters in Martin, Tennessee proved that courage and speed can make all the difference when they rescued a trapped resident from a burning building on April 17.

The City of Martin Fire/Rescue Department arrived at 303 Olive Street around 9:22 p.m. to find half the two-story home already swallowed by flames. Heavy smoke poured from every window as bystanders shouted urgent news: someone was trapped on the second floor.

The Ladder 1 crew didn't hesitate. They immediately positioned their ladders against the burning building and climbed toward the trapped resident while flames spread rapidly through the structure.

Firefighters successfully reached the victim, carried them down the ladder to safety, and handed them over to waiting medics. Medic Unit 3 rushed the resident to Volunteer Community Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the fire intensified and broke through the roof. Multiple units including Engine 2, Engine 9, and additional medics worked together to battle the blaze for roughly three hours before finally containing it.
