Firefighters Save 3 Pets from Round Lake House Fire

Three furry family members are safe tonight thanks to firefighters who rushed into a burning Round Lake home to bring them to safety.

The fire broke out around 11:10 p.m. Wednesday in the 1900 block of South Jonathan Drive. Heavy flames were already shooting from the garage and second floor when the first fire engine arrived just six minutes after the call.

Three residents had already escaped the two-story home before firefighters arrived. But their pets were still inside, trapped by the rapidly spreading blaze.

Firefighters from the Grayslake Fire Protection District immediately went to work. They launched a defensive attack on the fire while searching for the animals inside.

All three pets made it out alive. The rescue team pulled each one from the smoke-filled home and got them to safety.

One resident suffered injuries during the fire and received treatment. The home sustained approximately $400,000 in damage as flames spread from the garage to the attic.
