Firefox Adds Free VPN with 50GB Monthly Data for Users

Mozilla just made online privacy accessible to millions by building a free VPN directly into Firefox browser, giving users 50GB of secure browsing every month.

The feature launched today in Firefox 149 for users in the U.S., UK, Germany, and France. Anyone with a free Mozilla account can activate it with a simple toggle switch in the top right corner of their browser.

Unlike Mozilla's paid VPN service that protects your entire device, this free tool focuses specifically on browser traffic. That makes it perfect for the moments when privacy matters most: searching for health information, shopping online, or connecting to public Wi-Fi at a coffee shop or airport.

The system routes your browsing through secure U.S. based proxy servers, hiding your IP address and location from websites you visit. Mozilla designed it to be smart about when to use your data allowance, letting you specify up to five websites where the VPN activates automatically while leaving other sites unprotected to conserve your monthly limit.

The browser will send notifications when you're approaching your 50GB cap, so you never get surprised by running out. For context, that's enough data for hundreds of hours of regular browsing, though streaming video would eat through it faster.
