Flight Attendant Survives 100-Meter Ejection From Plane Crash

When rescuers found Solange Tremblay still strapped into her seat more than 100 meters from the wreckage of Flight 9217, they knew they were witnessing something extraordinary.

The Air Canada Jazz flight attendant survived what aviation experts are calling a miraculous escape after a devastating collision at New York's LaGuardia Airport on Sunday. The CRJ-900 aircraft struck a fire truck during landing, killing both pilots and injuring nine others.

At the moment of impact, Tremblay's seat was violently ejected from the aircraft, launching her more than the length of a football field away from the crash site. Emergency crews discovered her conscious, still secured in her seat, amid the chaos of the accident scene.

"It's a complete miracle," said her daughter Sarah Lépine in an interview with Quebec's TVA News. "She had a guardian angel watching over her."

Tremblay, who has worked as a flight attendant for 26 years, suffered multiple fractures and required surgery for a broken leg. Doctors report she is expected to make a full recovery, a prognosis her family considers nothing short of miraculous given the circumstances.

Aviation safety expert Jeff Guzzetti called her survival extraordinary, especially considering the severe destruction to the front section of the aircraft. The force required to eject a secured seat that distance would typically result in fatal injuries.
