Florida Charter Schools Hit 400K Students, Beat Benchmarks

Florida's charter schools just hit a milestone that proves parents are voting with their feet: 400,000 students now attend charter schools statewide, and those students are thriving academically.

New data from the Florida Department of Education shows charter school students outperformed their peers in traditional public schools across 55 of 77 academic benchmarks in the 2024-25 school year. That's up from 53 of 77 comparisons the year before, showing consistent progress in the right direction.

The gains weren't limited to a few top performers. Charter school students showed stronger results across English, math, science, and social studies at multiple grade levels.

Even more encouraging: the success extended to students who often face the biggest challenges. Students from economically disadvantaged families and students with disabilities both saw positive outcomes in charter school settings.

"These results demonstrate that Florida's commitment to educational excellence and parental choice is delivering real outcomes for students," said Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas during National Charter Schools Week.

The numbers reflect more than test scores. The steady enrollment growth suggests families trust charter schools to deliver on their promises of innovative teaching and safe learning environments.
