Florida Fund Awards $7.5M to 470 Students in 2026

Over 470 students in South Florida just received life-changing news: they're heading to college with full support from the George Snow Scholarship Fund. The organization awarded more than $7.5 million in 2026, including $3.9 million to 220 Palm Beach County students alone.

When scholarship recipients learned they'd been selected, they weren't just handed a check. They were welcomed into what the fund calls the "Snow Family," a community that stays with them from enrollment through graduation.

The fund recently hosted ceremonies in partnership with The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation to celebrate their newest scholars. But the celebration quickly turned practical with a High School to College Transition Orientation designed to set students up for success.

Throughout the day, students attended sessions on financial literacy, career readiness, and navigating college life. More than 45 local professionals joined scholars for a "Wisdom Walk," offering personalized guidance in small group conversations.

Each scholar walked away with a rolling duffel bag packed with dorm essentials, school supplies, and either a new laptop or college supply stipend. These weren't just welcome gifts but the first of many resources they'll receive throughout their college journey.

The support continues long after move-in day. Scholars have access to emergency funds, mental health counseling, financial advice, legal help, and career coaching whenever they need it.

The Ripple Effect

The impact extends far beyond individual students. When young people from families facing financial hardship earn college degrees, they transform entire communities. Studies show first-generation college graduates lift their families' economic prospects for generations.

Tim Snow, the fund's president, emphasized what donors make possible. "When you really think about it, that is what we provide: opportunity and hope," he said during the ceremony.

Applications for the 2027 scholarship cycle open November 1, 2026. The Scholar Services team will visit high schools across Broward and Palm Beach Counties throughout fall to help seniors apply.

Students interested in joining the Snow Family next year can talk to their high school counselors about attending an upcoming presentation to learn about available opportunities.
