Florida Teacher Wins North America Cambridge Teaching Award

Elizabeth Seemann has found her home in the classroom for nearly three decades, and now the world is taking notice.

The U.S. history teacher at Seminole Ridge Community High School in Palm Beach County just won the 2026 Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards for North America. She competed against thousands of educators nominated across 126 countries for the international honor.

Cambridge University Press & Assessment recognized Seemann for igniting passion for history while building critical thinking skills in her students. The 28-year teaching veteran has spent nearly 20 years at Seminole Ridge, where she introduced Cambridge AS U.S. History courses in 2020 and advanced A Level coursework in 2022.

These aren't typical high school classes. The Cambridge programs push students to develop college-level analytical and academic skills, preparing them for challenges beyond graduation.

"The classroom has always been where I feel most at home, which makes this recognition as the North America winner of the Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards deeply meaningful," Seemann said.

The Ripple Effect

Seemann's win extends far beyond personal achievement. As the regional champion, she receives classroom books and a trophy that will benefit her students for years to come.

She now advances to the global phase, competing against eight regional winners from around the world. The public can vote for the global champion through May 12, with the overall winner announced June 2.

The Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards launched in 2019 specifically to spotlight educators making significant impacts on students and communities. In a profession often overlooked, these awards shine light on the teachers shaping future generations.

Seemann's students at Seminole Ridge are watching their teacher compete on the world stage, seeing firsthand what dedication and passion can achieve.
