Framingham Students Showcase Climate Solutions at Fair

Students across Framingham are proving that the next generation isn't waiting around to solve climate challenges.

The city's annual Cooler Communities Fair returns May 30 at Walsh Middle School, where young climate innovators will showcase projects they've designed to make a real difference. The free event runs from 10 a.m. to noon and welcomes everyone in the community.

Projects on display include pollinator pods that support local ecosystems, food waste reduction programs, composting initiatives, and creative upcycled art and clothing. Students from the district's Explorers and SAGE programs have been working on these solutions all year.

The fair is organized through Cooler Communities, a climate education program run by the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation. Since 2020, the program has focused on empowering young people through age-appropriate, solution-centered climate education across Massachusetts.

The Ripple Effect

Framingham is one of nine Massachusetts communities hosting these student-led climate fairs this spring. The program supports schools through grants, professional development, and classroom resources across all grades and subjects.

What makes Cooler Communities special is its focus on action over anxiety. Instead of overwhelming kids with doom-and-gloom predictions, the program connects classroom learning to real solutions students can implement in their own backyards and communities.

Light refreshments will be served at the fair, and local leaders are expected to attend. Families can meet the young innovators behind each project and learn how similar solutions might work in their own homes.

These students are showing their neighbors that climate action doesn't have to be complicated or expensive to make a difference.
