Frankfort 8U Softball Wins District Title in Extra Innings
A team of 8-year-old softball players from Frankfort battled back from an opening-round loss to claim their District 3 championship in a thrilling extra-inning finale. The Frankfort All-Stars rallied from behind three times before securing their ticket to the state tournament with a 17-14 victory.
Eight-year-old softball players don't usually face elimination games, but the Frankfort All-Stars just proved they can handle the pressure like seasoned champions.
After losing their opening game to Anderson County at the Little League District 3 tournament on June 21, the young team refused to quit. They bounced back with a 15-8 win over Spencer County that same day, keeping their championship dreams alive.
What followed was an unforgettable three-day run. On June 22, Frankfort beat Harrison County 17-11, then dominated Anderson County 17-1 in the first championship game to force a winner-take-all final.
The decisive game on June 23 at Cardinal Run Park in Lexington turned into an instant classic. Frankfort jumped ahead early with clutch hits from Annie Mangum, Bella Wiard, Blakely Aldridge, and Mackenzy Duncan. They extended their lead to 8-3 by the third inning.
Anderson County wasn't done. They rallied to tie the game 8-8 in the third inning, then surged ahead 12-9 in the fourth with a string of extra-base hits.

Most teams would have folded under that pressure. Not these girls.
Frankfort chipped away at the deficit and tied the game in the fifth inning. They retook the lead in the sixth, only to watch Anderson County answer again to force extra innings at 14-14.
In the seventh inning, Duncan delivered a go-ahead RBI double. Eva Wiley followed with another clutch double to push the lead to 17-14. The defense held strong in the bottom half to seal the championship.
The team collected 27 hits in the win, with contributions from all 12 players. Jazelle Tillman led with four hits, while Mangum, Quinn Quarles, Wiard, Aldridge, and Duncan each added three.
Sunny's Take
Head coach Ramsey Quarles and assistants Tim Sanford, Justin Duncan, Cassie Aldridge, and Chad Mangum helped these young athletes learn something more valuable than softball skills. They learned that setbacks don't define you, that teams win together, and that staying calm under pressure can lead to extraordinary moments.
For a group of 8-year-olds, that opening-round loss could have ended everything. Instead, it became the first chapter in a comeback story they'll remember forever.
The Frankfort 8U All-Stars head to the Little League State Tournament next month with momentum, confidence, and proof that champions aren't born in the first inning.
