Freshman Grace Walsh Wins Two State Titles in One Year
A 14-year-old from Manson, Washington just became a two-time state champion before finishing her first year of high school. Grace Walsh conquered both cross country and track, proving age is just a number when talent meets dedication.
Grace Walsh isn't even old enough to drive, but she's already collecting state championship titles like they're participation ribbons.
The Manson High School freshman won the Washington state championship in the 3200-meter race with a personal best time of 11:15.58 at the WIAA State Track & Field Championships in Yakima last week. It was her second state title this school year, after winning the cross country championship in the fall.
But Grace wasn't done. Just hours after winning gold in the 3200-meter, she came back to claim silver in the 1600-meter with a time of 5:17.60.
Two state titles and a runner-up finish in one school year would be impressive for a senior athlete preparing for college recruitment. For a freshman who started high school eight months ago, it's extraordinary.
Grace wasn't the only Trojan making waves at state. Junior Quinn Williams finished second in the boys 400-meter dash with a personal best of 49.68 seconds. Senior Brian Crist closed out his high school career with a fourth-place finish in shot put, launching the ball 47 feet, 10.75 inches.

The girls 4x400 relay team took fifth place with a personal best time, while sophomore Kathrin Zhuk finished sixth in the 800-meter race with more high school seasons ahead of her.
Why This Inspires
What stands out isn't just the podium finishes. It's watching Ryder Stevens compete in unified track events, partnering with teammates to finish sixth in the 100-meter and seventh in shot put.
It's seeing eight athletes set personal bests at the state championship, the biggest stage of their season. It's a team of small-town teenagers from Manson traveling to Yakima and proving they belong among Washington's best athletes.
Grace Walsh may have two state titles at 14, but she's not racing alone. She's part of a program that celebrates every personal record, every podium finish, every athlete who shows up and gives everything they have.
The Manson Trojans brought home hardware, memories, and proof that greatness doesn't wait for graduation. Sometimes it shows up freshman year and keeps running.
