Georgia Credit Union Awards $25K in College Scholarships

Five Georgia college students will soon celebrate a $5,000 scholarship that comes with something even more valuable: the financial knowledge to use it wisely.

Delta Community Credit Union just opened applications for its 21st annual scholarship program, which awards $25,000 total to students heading to college next fall. But unlike typical scholarships, this one requires applicants to complete a free online course in personal finance before they can even submit their essay.

The essay question asks students to reflect on a financial experience that shaped how they think about money, then explain how they'll apply their new financial literacy skills in college and beyond. It's a smart twist that ensures winners start their adult lives with both funding and financial knowledge.

"Delta Community is committed to helping consumers of all ages develop smart, sustainable personal finance habits," said CEO Hank Halter. The credit union has invested in financially literate students for more than two decades, supporting young adults as they navigate their first years of independence.

To qualify, students must be Delta Community members seeking their first undergraduate degree and enrolled full time at an accredited U.S. college or university for fall 2026. Applications close March 1 at 5 p.m. ET, and winners will be announced in early April.

The Ripple Effect

This scholarship does more than ease the burden of college costs. By requiring financial education upfront, Delta Community is creating a generation of graduates who understand budgeting, debt management, and smart money decisions before they face real-world financial pressures.

The credit union also offers additional scholarships for students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities and provides hundreds of free financial literacy classes throughout metro Atlanta. As Georgia's largest credit union with 525,000 members, Delta Community has the reach to make financial education accessible to thousands of families.

Teaching financial skills alongside awarding scholarships creates a multiplier effect. These students will carry money management knowledge into their careers, families, and communities for decades to come.

Applications open February 1, giving Georgia students a month to complete their course and craft thoughtful essays about their financial futures.
