Faith Restored

Carrollton High School just celebrated its 22nd consecutive year beating Georgia's state graduation rate, sending 460 students into the world with diplomas, scholarships, and real job skills. Even better, they achieved this while requiring students to complete five more courses than the state minimum.

When 460 students walked across the stage at Carrollton High School this May, they weren't just getting diplomas. They were continuing a legacy of achievement that's now outlasted an entire generation.

For the 22nd year in a row, Carrollton High School's graduation rate has surpassed Georgia's state average, hitting 91.4 percent this year. The school doesn't take shortcuts either, requiring graduates to complete 28 course credits instead of the state's 23.

Among this year's graduates, 140 students earned honor status with at least a 90 percent average. Another 80 students took home distinction honors with a 95 percent average or higher.

But the success goes beyond test scores. More than 220 students completed work-based learning internships, gaining real experience before graduation. Another 349 finished career pathways in technical and agricultural education programs, leaving high school with actual job skills.

The numbers tell a powerful story about college readiness too. Sixty percent of graduates qualified for the HOPE Scholarship, which covers tuition at Georgia colleges. Together, the class earned more than $15.15 million in college scholarships.

Not every student took a traditional path to success, and that's part of what makes this achievement special. Programs like the Performance Learning Center helped students with different learning needs succeed in smaller settings. Project SEARCH, a partnership with the University of West Georgia, gave students with disabilities the training they needed for competitive employment.

Why This Inspires

What stands out isn't just the impressive statistics. It's that Carrollton refused to lower standards while ensuring every student had the support they needed to meet them. Students who might have fallen through the cracks elsewhere found programs designed specifically for their success.

Principal Dr. Eric Simmons credits the achievement to both students and teachers working together year after year. Superintendent Dr. Mark Albertus puts it simply: graduating from Carrollton means being ready for what comes next, whether that's college, work, or military service.

After graduation, 82 percent of students headed to college, 14 percent entered the workforce, and 7 percent enlisted in the military. Forty-four student athletes signed to compete at the college level.

Twenty-two years of beating the state average means Carrollton has been getting this right since 2004, proving that high expectations and strong support aren't opposites.
