Most high school basketball players chase scoring records, but Tyliah Benjamin found her superpower in something more fundamental: rebounds.

The Wilcox County junior reached 1,000 career rebounds this week, an achievement that typically takes athletes their entire high school career to accomplish. Benjamin did it in just three seasons while helping lead the Patriots to a regular season championship.

Her approach to the game is refreshingly simple. "Rebound it. Rebound it. That's it," Benjamin explained. "I was like, I can score. They can score better. So, rebound it. Get them all done, they're going to score every time."

That mindset shows remarkable maturity for a junior. While many players focus on personal glory through points, Benjamin recognized her team needed dominance on the boards more than another scorer.

The strategy is clearly working. Benjamin dropped 22 points in the Patriots' 20th win against Macon County earlier this week, showing she can do both when needed. The team followed up with a victory over Hawkinsville on Friday to secure the regular season title.
