Georgia Students Beat State Averages in Math and Science

Students across two Georgia school districts just proved that hard work pays off, with test scores climbing well above state averages in every subject measured.

Cobb County and Marietta City Schools released their latest Georgia Milestones assessment results, showing students from third through twelfth grade outperforming their peers statewide. The standardized tests measure skills in math, science, social studies, and English language arts.

The math results tell an especially exciting story. Marietta ranked in the top five among all Metro Atlanta school districts for math scores in grades three through six. Fourth graders led the charge with the metro area's number one improvement in math performance.

Marietta's fifth graders made history by posting the highest percentage of proficient or distinguished science students since the Milestone tests launched 11 years ago.

Social studies brought more good news. Marietta City schools jumped 15 points in just one year, now beating the state average. That kind of single year improvement shows what focused effort and dedicated teaching can accomplish.
