Ghana and Zambia Remove Visa Requirements for All Citizens

The two nations signed a landmark visa waiver agreement during President John Dramani Mahama's three-day state visit to Zambia this week. Citizens can now travel freely between both countries without the stress, cost, or paperwork of obtaining visas.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the historic agreement from Lusaka, calling it one of the most significant outcomes of the diplomatic visit. President Mahama arrived in Zambia's capital on February 4 to warm welcomes from President Hakainde Hichilema.

"For the first time in the history of Ghana-Zambia relations, we will have free visa travel between our two countries," Ablakwa told journalists. He revealed that President Mahama made the visa waiver a non-negotiable priority for the trip, instructing him not to join the visit if the agreement wasn't achieved.

The policy removes bureaucratic barriers that have long frustrated students, business owners, tourists, and professionals trying to move between the two nations. Now a Ghanaian entrepreneur can explore opportunities in Lusaka or a Zambian student can study in Accra without jumping through administrative hoops.
