Ghana Fast-Tracks Kasoa-Winneba Road Ahead of Schedule

Commuters along Ghana's congested Kasoa-Winneba corridor just got promising news: their daily frustration may end sooner than expected. President John Dramani Mahama announced that the major highway reconstruction could finish by December 2024, three months ahead of the March 2027 deadline.

After touring the construction site, Mahama praised both the quality of work and the pace of progress. "I can understand the frustration of commuters on this road, but help is on the way," he told reporters. The President highlighted what the project represents beyond just pavement and paint.

"It reinforces our confidence in the capacity of Ghanaian contractors to be able to do world-class projects like any international contractor," Mahama said. The statement carries weight in a region where major infrastructure often goes to foreign firms.

Roads and Highways Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza revealed that the government has already invested over 12 billion Ghanaian cedis in inherited road projects. Not a single project has been suspended under the new administration. That funding commitment allowed contractors to maintain momentum on multiple sections simultaneously.

Safety features built into the design show planners thinking beyond just moving cars faster. Engineers incorporated 15 grade-separated pedestrian crossings, mixing underpasses and overpasses based on terrain and security needs. The contractor confirmed adequate funding is secured through completion. Work continues across multiple stretches, with crews racing to beat the original timeline while maintaining international standards.
