Ghana Launches Free Primary Healthcare for All Citizens

Families across Ghana will soon access doctors, nurses, and basic medical care without worrying about the bill. First Lady Lordina Dramani Mahama announced the upcoming Free Primary Health Care Programme during the opening of a renovated health center in Anyima, located in the Brong Ahafo region.

President John Dramani Mahama will officially launch the nationwide program in the coming weeks. The initiative will cover essential health services at primary care facilities like the newly renovated Anyima Health Centre, ensuring that cost never prevents someone from seeing a doctor.

The program addresses a critical barrier that has kept many Ghanaian families from seeking medical help when they need it most. By removing fees at the point of care, health officials expect more people to visit clinics for preventive care and catch serious conditions before they become life-threatening.

Mrs. Mahama emphasized that the program should lead to better health outcomes across the board. Early disease detection means better treatment success rates, while reduced healthcare costs will free up family budgets for education, nutrition, and other essentials.

At the Anyima Health Centre commissioning, the First Lady challenged medical staff to treat every patient with dignity and compassion. She set an ambitious goal for the facility: zero maternal deaths and zero infant deaths, reflecting the program's commitment to protecting the most vulnerable.
