Ghana MP Launches Student Leadership Award at Alma Mater

When Member of Parliament Sammi Awuku returned to St. Augustine's College in Ghana for the school's 96th anniversary celebration, he brought more than just words of encouragement. He launched a brand new award to recognize students and teachers who are making a real difference.

Awuku, who once walked the same halls as the young men sitting before him, served as chairman for the school's annual Speech and Prize Giving Day. Ghana's Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang joined students, staff, and parents for the celebration.

Starting this year, the award will honor one student and one teacher annually who demonstrate exceptional leadership, community spirit, and commitment to sustainability. Winners will be chosen based on their positive impact within their classrooms, on campus, and in their communities.

Awuku reminded students that their education extends far beyond test scores and future careers. "Your time here is about discovering the kind of individuals you wish to become and the values that will guide your choices in the years ahead," he told them.

He emphasized that today's students face complex challenges, from environmental protection to community wellbeing. Each young person has the power to influence their peers and contribute to building a more sustainable and equitable future.
